We are undergoing a period of rapid transformation brought about by the paradigm of lifelong learning across all systems.
As a requirement for the sustainability of this process and with the recognition that education is a positive phenomenon, the traditional concept of the "teaching school" has been replaced by the "learning school." The significance and role of "cybernetics", as a theory of self-regulating complex systems and as a communication model, are undoubtedly undeniable in this context.
In knowledge-intensive societies, the principle of continuous learning has become increasingly important in order not to fall behind socio-cultural and technological advancements. In this context, education has shifted from being a marginal aspect of our lives to becoming central, through elements such as quality, sustainability, human development, knowledge creation, and value generation. The mission of the education system has likewise evolved in light of these developments. The transformation of learning into a fundamental and natural dynamic and the adoption of student-centered education models are among the most prominent indicators of this shift.
As science has progressed, “approximate knowledge” has been replaced by the more objective “methodical knowledge.” Consequently, the efforts of institutions and organizations to prepare for increased competition have accelerated. The path to achieving strategic goals lies not merely in acquiring knowledge but in using that knowledge correctly and generating useful outcomes. The indispensable condition of being a knowledge society is to cultivate individuals who learn how to learn, who can transfer knowledge across different domains, who internalize this knowledge, and who are well-equipped in every sense. The mission and vision of educational institutions in this regard are of critical importance.
If we consider that humanity’s dance with knowledge is as old as human history itself, it becomes clear that one of the key stops along this journey from the distant past to the foreseeable future is the culture of change. In the future, societies and organizations that can renew themselves, revise their approaches, and learn collaboratively will achieve success. Every step taken from a knowledge society toward a wise society must be guided by awareness and wisdom.
